How much do camp counselors earn?

Camps pay a season stipend on top of free housing and all meals, so your living costs during the summer are close to zero.

Do I need experience with children?

Some experience helps — coaching, teaching, scouting or babysitting all count — but enthusiasm and reliability matter most.

Camp counselor roles

General counselors live with a cabin group, while specialists teach one activity — swimming, sailing, climbing, football, arts or horse riding. Specialist skills get you picked first.

Applying for a camp season

Applications open the autumn before and fill by spring. Expect an interview, references and a background check; US camps also arrange the J-1 visa.
